Restoring my Xbox 360 at home was easier and faster than I might have thought. When the Red Ring of Death at the outset appeared I did what nearly all gamers do. I cursed. I screamed I stomped about the house desiring to trash something. Game consoles usually don't break following you have gained the level, otherwise done the tough sequence, or Lord forbid, beaten the game. No, gaming units stopping working in the middle of the hardest sequence, right when you are just about to conquer it. The frustration is adequate to cause you choose to squeeze the life out of something.

Consequently came the call to Microsoft. After patiently answering all of the tech's questions (though I wanted to shout, I didn't) he informed me that the Red Ring of Death is a very ordinary fault, and the refurbish is feasible. All I had to do was wait in favor of him to forward me a mailing package, pack up my console and mail it to the service center. They would restore it and mail it back to me within no more than a few weeks. As soon as I asked clarification of the word 'few' he held that meant 4 to 6 at the the majority. Restoring my Xbox 360 would take 4 to 6 weeks. In 4 to 6 weeks I am in no doubt to have forgotten the trick I had just learned to conquer the Level 9 sequence that had been all but stopping me dead in my tracks for many days now.

I knew there had to be a better solution for repairing my Xbox 360. So I went searching in the forums on the internet. Guess what I found? Many of my fellow gamers had already fixed their boxes at home using some simple basic tools. There were a little spurious suggestions, together with the infamous 'towel fix'. The Red Ring is an overheating glitch - I ask you, how will a towel actually repair that? But ignoring the half-baked advice I discovered a really terrific repair instruction manual with step by step information for fixing the fault that would get me back to my game here hours not weeks.

Well, in my book there was no contest - 4 to 6 weeks or a short time ago hours. I wanted to resolve the fault myself and I am really happy that I did. Repairing my Xbox 360 took fewer than 2 hours.

If you are like me and unwilling to wait 4 to 6 weeks for your Xbox maybe you should consider doing what I did.
